W2A Design Group provided full A / E Design Services for a new Pottsville Borough Hall.
Situated in historic Pottstown, Pennsylvania, this new Borough Hall was needed to replace a worn-out building and to resolve serious space problems. The brick and limestone facades were designed economically to meet the budget of the client, and with careful sensitivity to reflect neighboring buildings. Initially designed for a site within the Borough’s Historic District, the project involved adherence to strict guidelines set by the local Historic Architecture Review Board (HARB).Following favorable public reaction to the design, the Borough Council decided to relocate the building to a more prominent site on High Street (Pottstown’s Main Street). On the new site, a long-time vacant renewal area, it was thought that the building could form one side of a new public square area and become a catalyst for downtown redevelopment. The building was slightly redesigned for the new site.
The building was efficiently planned by department functions. The First Floor is devoted to the Police Department, with a segregated entrance. The Department is divided into four functional quadrants, which includes Administrative Offices, Detective Offices, a 2-car Sallyport adjacent to suspect processing, and five detention cells, plus Training and Support areas.
