The Proposed Renovations to Cedar Crest College’s Moore Hall provide an alternative to the typical dormitory layout. Improvements begin even before one enters the building. A new exterior ramp provides physical connectivity to the previously inaccessible building and is integrated with a new expanded outdoor gathering space. The ramp is not an isolated element, but rather a component of this shared gathering space, which also includes terraced planting beds and built-in benches. Thus, handicapped accessibility to the building is provided in an extremely inclusive manner.Following the growing trend in campus dormitory living, this design renovates one of every three dormitory rooms into two private bathrooms; one for each of two double-occupancy rooms. The existing shared, common bath, toilet and shower rooms, as well as miscellaneous utility areas on each floor are proposed to be converted to one new single-occupancy Resident Assistant room and one new single-occupancy handicapped accessible dormitory room, both with private bathrooms, on each floor.
Shared common spaces, including a state-of-the-art Media Room on the ground floor and centralized Laundry facilities on each resident floor, will provide additional convenience for residents.
