This new 29,600 SF addition to Emmaus High School connected two buildings of varying scale and vintage with a strategic 3-story addition placed in an open area between them. The addition introduced new materials and a curved curtainwall to create an identity for the new centralized main office area. The office area was formerly at one end of the school and lacked identity as the main entrance. The curved wall also created additional space for classrooms and the administration suite. The overall impact of the addition is a high-profile and inviting “main entry” for the High School.
The high school had a need for a “high-tech” lecture hall, but space for this was very limited due to low floor-to-floor heights of the existing buildings. To solve the height issue, W2A placed the space on the new third floor. The new 100 seat multi-media lecture hall accommodates college-style presentations, distance learning, teleconferencing, and community events. The Lecture Hall is divisible into two separate lecture rooms, one seating 66 and the other 34. Design and PlanCon approvals for this project were expedited to allow for timely occupancy.
The project also included 12 new “smart” classrooms, a new art (painting studio) room, and 1 seminar room.
