Phase I: Renovations to the existing Student Center to improve efficiency, enlarge the dining area, and create space for student activities. The existing U-shaped path was replaced with a meandering path. Customer flow and display areas where greatly improved to make the space much more attractive to students.A new staff dining area doubles as a culinary teaching center. Other improvements include a partitioned private dining area, returning adult student lounge, and administrative offices. This project was awarded the “Collegiate Citation” for Interior Design (the top national award) by American School and University Magazine, and was featured in an issue of ASU.
Phase II: Expansion of the LCCC Student Center was primarily new construction. The design stemmed from the college’s desire to create informal gathering spaces. Master planned as part of the original project, the building acts as an infill between two existing buildings and incorporates an existing connecting bridge into the design. The overall result has transformed an underutilized outdoor plaza into a grand welcoming point for students, forming a new gateway to the campus.
The expansion also created a much-needed accessible entry into the College’s Administration Building. The new facility features a large flexible gathering space that accommodates small musical group concerts, informal presentations, plays, and poetry readings, or simply an informal, bright gathering and café seating area.
