W2A Design Group designed this conversion of the former Lehigh Valley Charter Arts High School into the relocated Lehigh Valley Dual Language Charter School. The project consisted of renovations under multiple prime / Prevailing Wage contracts occurring simultaneously with the landlord’s upkeep and maintenance work. This 43,000 SF overall project included 17 Classrooms, Gymnasium, Cafeteria with commercial warming Kitchen, Administrative suite and support spaces to serve approximately 450 elementary and middle-school-aged students.
Many of the materials and colors of both the original manufacturing building and the former charter high school were retained for both visual interest and economy, creating a seamless integration of existing and new construction. Brick walls were left exposed where possible, materials were mixed and lively colors were used throughout the building to create a playful atmosphere and provide a means of wayfinding for the students.
