W2A Design Group completed a comprehensive Schematic Feasibility Re-Use Report for Lehigh Valley Hospital & Health Network to evaluate the feasibility of relocating specified administrative departments into the 1210 Medical Office Building located on its main I-78 and Cedar Crest campus. W2A’s familiarity with the building allowed us to seamlessly segue into what became a major Pediatric Specialty Practices relocation project in the 1210 MOB.
This project relocated three Pediatric Specialty Practices from LVHN’s Muhlenberg campus into 16,000 square feet, enabling Pediatric Gastroenterology, Neurology and Pulmonary to grow their practices and provide essential pediatric specialty services in an exciting and child-friendly environment convenient to the main hospital facility. Although the different groups are spatially contiguous and share common spaces and services within the suite, each specialty was provided with a unique color identity from a shared palette. This also provides excellent cues for architectural wayfinding.
A water theme literally flows through the spaces as a wave on the walls, floors and privacy window films, with each exam room provided its own “beach” inviting patients to enter from the Corridor. Materials are durable, and provide visual interest and excitement for both the pediatric patients and their families. Visual interest and patient privacy were achieved, while still allowing borrowed light between spaces with the use of colorful semi-opaque resin panels. These colorful panels follow through on both the nautical theme and the color branding of the individual specialties throughout the space.
